Dr. Gail D. Dantzker,
Executive Director

B.S., Education: Area Major in History Indiana State University

Dr. Dantzker has worked in faculty, staff and administrative positions at a wide variety of levels and institutional types during her thirty-five years in higher education. Her experience encompasses much of the range of higher education: from teaching developmental education to teaching graduate courses; private, public and proprietary institutions; community colleges to research universities; urban and rural institutions of higher education; as well as academic and student support and institutional research and planning services. She applies this rich background of knowledge and experience to assist A&M-Kingsville accomplish its institutional mission and engage in planned growth and continuous improvement.

Her research interests involve work in organizational change, culture and behavior. She continues her study of institutional effectiveness in all its aspects and writes and presents regularly, as well as serves as a professional consultant to colleges and universities. Dr. Dantzker’s continuing interest in access and equity of opportunity – including developmental education and learning assistance programs – for under prepared or economically or socially challenged students reflects her own roots in rural poverty and personal challenges in obtaining her education. Her community service activities involve assisting others in their quests to rise above the challenges of economic and social strata limitations, as others helped her learn to move beyond similar challenges.

MISSION STATEMENT:
 

The mission of the Office of Institutional Planning and Assessment is to support the work of the faculty, staff and administration of Texas A&M University-Kingsville in fulfilling the mission of the university.

To do so, its staff

  • Maintains knowledge about assessment methods, activities, mechanisms and programs
  • Provides and supports training for faculty and staff development in assessment activities
  • Nominates faculty and staff to the Assessment Council, to be appointed by the President
  • Oversees the overall assessment program for the campus, including development and coordination of the annual assessment plan
  • Collects assessment information from academic and administrative units, and provides feedback, as appropriate, to units on their assessment plans
  • Develops, administers and analyzes survey instruments to assist in assessment efforts
  • Analyzes, evaluates and presents data for internal and external reports, including institutional effectiveness for SACS accreditation purposes

The Executive Director of Institutional Planning and Assessment oversees the work of the Office of Institutional Research through the Director of that office, as well as the work of the Director of the Quality Enhancement Plan.
